Tell me this is not the coolest kid bedding ever.
I mean, it’s not even “kid” bedding; not really. It’s just “cool” bedding.
PBteen – a store that I’ve been patronizing for decades beyond when I qualified as a “teenager” (and that I suspect you have too; they have some very good stuff in there) – just released a limited-edition collection of bedding, backpacks and accessories created by artist Zio Ziegler.
This is Zio.
I met him at the launch event for the collection the other night…and was impressed by his work, of course, but even more so by what a good guy he is. To support the launch he created a custom mural for a local NYC school (pictured behind us), and watching him interact with the kids at the unveiling – how much time he spent with them sketching and answering questions and just hanging out – I could see why PBteen made the (bold, I think) decision to partner up with an artist known more for oversized murals, street-inspired style and strong, graphic lines than the more “traditional” designs you might expect to see in a home accessories collection.
It’s a surprising collaboration, but like many of the most unexpected pairings the payoff is a big one: a totally out-of-the-box collection that’s daring without being inaccessible.
My personal favorite pieces from the collection (available at PBteen stores and online soon):
A skateboard hook that I’d use as a purse or coat rack (or in my son’s room, to hang his hats)…
A sheet set that perfectly offsets the bold blue duvet in the collection, but that would also add a graphic edge to more feminine bedding styles…
These bookends, because obviously they’re amazing…
And a wall decal unlike anything I’ve seen before (and trust me; I’ve looked).
FYI: Zio will be at the PBteen store on the Upper East Side (1451 2nd Avenue @ 76th street) this Saturday, May 31 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm, where he’ll be customizing complimentary tote bags live in-store (more info on the event here).
