Weekend Snapshots: Museum Sprints Edition

Usually weekends feel like they fly by, and Monday morning arrives and I’m all sad because I wish I had an extra day to spend with my guys.

It’s Monday morning right now, and I do still wish I had an extra day, of course I do…but this weekend we did it right. Honestly, we packed so much into the past two days that it felt like an entire summer’s worth of…

well…

sprinting.

See?

On Saturday morning, inspired by last weekend’s aquarium success, we decided to head into the city for a trip to the Museum of Natural History. If you’ve never taken a toddler to see life-sized blue whales and elephants, I highly recommend the experience. Also maybe drink a Red Bull first, because small children in the presence of large dinosaur fossils are fast.

After about an hour and a half of top-speed exploring, this was how the excursion came to a close.

When you’re 20 months old and done…you are done.

We regrouped with brunch at A.G. Kitchen, a fantastic Cuban place on Columbus with a crazy cocktail menu (as an example, one creation included “Peanut Infused Buffalo Trace Bourbon and Canton Ginger Liqueur” – I have no idea what that means, but while it definitely sounds interesting, it also definitely sounds like something I do not want) and awesome food. Pictured above is a fried egg, bacon and cheese burger appropriately called a “Belly Bomb”.

A morning of museum sprints and Belly Bombs makes for an epic afternoon nap, so we settled Indy down at my parents’ place and snuck off for an afternoon date: beers at Rudy’s (our favorite bar when we lived in the neighborhood) followed by popcorn and World War Z.

Now, I love zombie everything, so the movie wasn’t exactly a hard sell for me, but honestly: it was THE BEST. Abandon all logic, and then go see it.

Saturday ended with dinner at 44 & X with my parents.

This photo might be one of my favorites ever.

On Sunday, we headed to a family BBQ at our local pool to check out a steel metal drum band, make major, major discoveries (rocket pops)…

…and play a little hide-and-go-seek.

Last stop: the boat club for bridge views, sunsets, lobster rolls and dancing.
