Me and Dad | Raja Ampat, Indonesia
While on this trip to Raja Ampat and Hong Kong, I posted a lot of Instagram stories. And in response, I received a lot of comments (both IRL and online) to the effect of “you really need to wear less makeup; it makes you look old.”
Which…you know…
Thank you?
Meh, six of one, half a dozen of the other. Also I’m going to guess that the kind of tan that comes along with a week-long trip on a liveaboard dive boat helps with the whole “glowy-ish whilst not wearing makeup” thing. But still, I’ll take it as a compliment. And also, it’s true: as we age, piling on the liners and the powders and the lipsticks can be fun and all (and I firmly believe that whatever makes you feel like your spectacular self, you should go ahead and DO THAT, even if “that” is pink eyeshadow and orange lipstick (#swag)), but it’s also really nice to sort of…streamline. Go back to the essentials.
And what that means – annoyingly, if you’re me – is taking care of your skin.
So one of the big things I was excited about doing on this vacation was wandering through some beauty shops, and maybe discovering some new skincare products to help me go all dewy and makeup-free. Except once I actually arrived in Hong Kong, I realized that I had a total of 48 hours there, and virtually all of the non-asleep ones involved being with my father. Who, as it turns out, might be a bit of an Instagram superstar, but is unfortunately not into hanging out in stores specializing in hyaluronic acid masks crafted in the shape of kitten faces.
Meet Jenn, a.k.a. Sasa Superstore Goddess
Enter: My longtime Internet (and now real-life) friend Jenn, who just went ahead and whipped through a Sasa Superstore for me, and came out with the beauty regimen of my (and, I assume, everyone’s) dreams.
Oh my god, you guys.
You have got to see what she found.
