I’ve lived in a bunch of different spots in New York City over the years…but really, my NYC story starts and ends in Hell’s Kitchen, the neighborhood where I lived from age two until I left for college, and then the neighborhood that I moved back to many years later to start a new life.
Hell’s Kitchen is where I learned to ride a bike and roller-skate (in that graffiti-covered playground you see pictured above). It’s where, at 11 years old, I made my first solo pilgrimage half a block to Claudio’s Pizzeria, for a slice with black olives. It’s where my junior high best friend and I haunted the local Salvation Army, coming home with trash bags full of clothing for $10, where I bartended at restaurants during summers home from college, walking back to my parents’ apartment as the sun rose, and where I sat in a diner at 4AM on my very first date with the man who became my husband.
Everyone has their own New York Story. This fall, UGG Australia is curating Letters from New York on their Facebook page, pinpointing the exact locations of these stories so that we can share them with each other.
