Sometimes you’ve just got to have a good girls’ day out. Lunch at a restaurant with a sunny patio and good bellinis, ice cream with chocolate sauce for dessert, a little window shopping. Our girls’ day included all of those things (plus a boy).
The outfit I’m wearing here is obviously nothing special – it’s basically my default outfit for when I physically need to be wearing clothing but don’t really care what I look like in it – but what’s nice is that lately I’ve been trying to do what all those fashion-advice-type women on TV are always telling you to do, which is whittle down my closet so that it’s stocked primarily with pieces I can just pull out and put on without really thinking about it. Like, say, a pair of jeans that feel like your most beat-up pair of pajamas (but aren’t), and a pair of oxfords that feel like your most beat-up pair of sneakers (but aren’t). So even when you’re “not wearing anything special,” you’re still wearing something that kind of…is.
Also just while we’re on the topic of oxfords, everyone in the entire city of New York has been wandering around in these for the past year and I loved them when I first saw them and continue to love them now.
Also Francesca bought the t-shirt that you see in these photos new and distressed it herself to look like a hundred-dollar one she found at some fancy boutique, and I’m obviously very on board with this technique (ahem). (That said, if you would rather spend a little extra money than sit around with nail scissors and some sandpaper, this tee is sooooo good.)
Also these photos make me extremely happy that I dealt with that hair situation. Holy not cute. (These were taken a couple of days prior to my NY trip and subsequent cut-and-color.)
Also this post is super tangential because yesterday I woke up at 3AM to fly across the country and right now it is 5:30AM EST and I’m wearing pink and silver eyeshadow because I’m on my way to a rave (I’m not kidding; more on this later because I have as little idea about what a 5:30AM rave – or a rave, generally – entails as you do) and I am hella loopy, wheeeee, but still: we need to have a quick chat about those earrings. They’re so ridiculous, but not exactly ridiculous in a way that I like. I want to like them, but I just think I…don’t. They’re really big. And sort of oddly clunky. I’ve owned them for three years now, and am constantly putting them on and then realizing that they’re REALLY a lot – like, a lot even for me, and I am hardly a person who can’t handle things that are “a lot” – and taking them back off. I’ve never actually worn them out in public. Because they make me feel ridiculous.
But you know where you should probably wear a pair of oddly clunky rose-gold hoops so massive that they plonk themselves right down on your shoulders? On a girls’ day out. Because nobody appreciates your crazy earrings – and your crazy self – like your best friend.
