Alright, so remember when my basement flooded a few months back? And we had to junk pretty much everything that resided down there?
That was no fun.
It wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been, though, because most of the stuff I really care about – photo albums, special baby clothing, et cetera – is either kept elsewhere or stored in waterproof bins (a spectacular and completely unprecedented moment of foresight and preparedness on my part).
One thing that we did end up having to toss: the boxes filled with our holiday stuff. Our ornaments were in the attic, but the rest of it? Our tree, our little decorative items, our wreath…all gone.
That’s okay. It’s just stuff, and this particular stuff isn’t just “replaceable,” but is actually fun to replace.
Number one on the Must Replace List was an electric fireplace, obviously. It is amazing and cuts down on our heating costs and makes it all feel very Christmassy in our living room.

I adore it and think you should experience the wonder of fake fire, too.
Next up: the tree. And I’d love your input with this one: traditional pine, or glam white spruce? I can’t decide.
(The fact that a Vintage Black Ombre tree also exists is making this whole process much more difficult.)
A fir wreath, a glitter star, some gold tinsel lights, and a few Justice League ornaments to make the boys in my household happy (because why not), and I think we’ll be good.

Oh, fine: maybe some matching family onesies, because Christmas is an excellent time for some cheesiness in footed pajama form.
And just so you’re aware: this is a Chewbacca stocking. I don’t even know what to say about that, other than that I’m certain I don’t need this, and I’m also certain that “need” isn’t really a factor when there are Chewbacca stockings involved.
