There are lots of things that I would call my style.
“Casual.”
“Non-girly.”
“More than slightly disheveled.”
One thing I wouldn’t necessarily call it is “classic”. I mean, I think people who can pull off perfectly pressed slacks and button-downs look amazing…but it’s just not really my thing, mostly because if I were to put on an outfit like that I’d be guaranteed to ruin all the pulled-together-ness with…I don’t know, doorknocker earrings or fringe boots. Messy hair. Too much eyeliner. Something to make the whole effect a little off-kilter, a little less polished, a little more me.
In other words: I love classic pieces…but I especially love them worn in non-classic ways.
Tailored trousers worn with an elephant-print tank and a wide-brimmed hat.
A silk blazer layered over a boho maxi-dress.
And a pair of menswear-inspired shoes mixed with leather, denim, and one very distressed t-shirt.
These heels, from Johnston & Murphy, give a nod to classic menswear style…but with a twist (velvet laces, crocodile toe-caps, and a mid-height heel). While they’d look lovely with a pencil skirt and blouse at the office, I think they look even better mixed into a weekend outfit.
Like this one.
