Q. I have a weird question: I love wearing loose off the shoulder tops like you do. I’ve noticed you very often seem to have no visible strap when you do…so what are you doing to hold the girls up?
Have you found the magic unicorn of strapless bras? I love that bare-shouldered look, but I haven’t been able to achieve it. Please help!
A. Lolol I love this question. And I have three answers for you:
1. Yes, I have found the magical unicorn, and it is called the Wacoal Halo Lace Strapless Bra. It’s lightweight, comfortable, and weirdly supportive given how barely-there it is (I own it in multiple colors).
2. That said, I wouldn’t recommend the Halo Lace Strapless for anyone above a DD; it’s just not quite structured enough. The Victoria’s Secret Convertible Bra is really good for larger sizes, but the truth is that when I’m pregnant (last time I got myself into E territory) I’m not particularly comfortable wearing a strapless bra all day long, or on very active days…so what I go for is – no joke – my faux leather bralet from Express (pictured above on its own).
Yes, you see the straps, but they’re cute enough that I don’t mind them showing, and if the bodice gets exposed (as sometimes happens with my very most off-the-shoulder sweaters) it looks like a cool camisole rather than…a bra.
3. I’m of the honest opinion that (venue permitting, obviously) it’s more than OK to let your straps show, provided that it appears that you’re doing it deliberately. Go for slim straps with pretty embellishments or in bright colors, and your bra becomes part of the look rather than an undergarment.
Hope that helps. Happy slouchy-sweatering!
