Last Saturday night’s accessories were obviously Merlot-inspired
At long last, it has arrived:
Red Wine Season.
Not that you can’t enjoy red wine while sitting poolside in July, but there’s something about the turn of the seasons that makes a glass of merlot, a cozy throw blanket, and an evening with nothing at all to do except read a book (preferably next to a roaring fireplace) sound really, really good.
It’s not just the wine that gets switched up when autumn rolls around, though – it’s the whole vibe. In summer, for example, I serve wine in lightweight little gold-edged Moroccan tea glasses, but red wine deserves something more substantial. Like a crystal goblet – because a gorgeous wine glass makes even the most ordinary Wednesday night feel special. Upgraded. You know what I mean?
And while we’re on the topic of fall switch-ups: I’ve been talking for years now about the importance of taking a couple of hours at the start of every season to go through your wardrobe and store away all those items that aren’t going to get worn for a few months. This year, though, I went one step further and decided to cull through my vanity, as well (with a glass of the Ecco Domani Merlot pictured here for company, of course).
The thing is, my jewelry box and makeup bag are total disasters, just piled with junk I don’t ever use. And so I end up always defaulting to the same items mostly because I can’t even see what I have.
So over the weekend I took an hour to sift through my entire vanity, tucking away the jewelry and beauty products that scream “summer” (turquoise bracelets, bright-orange lipstick, et cetera) into the far reaches of my drawers and moving the heavier, more dramatic and more richly-colored pieces up to where I’m much more likely to see (and then use) them.
About the wine: Ecco Domani Merlot is the perfect everyday table wine, with notes of cherry and blackberry. It’s the kind of red that goes with a wide variety of dishes (everything from poultry to steak to Chinese takeout), but I especially like it paired with a massive bowl of pasta, a couch, and a couple of episodes of Below Deck (don’t judge; it’s amazing).
Fall winedrobe, check.
