I call this my “Betty Cooper” ponytail.
I was an Archie comic obsessive through the age of about 12, and always wished that, when pulled into an elastic, my sorta-frizzy, definitely-not-adorable hair would miraculously turn into a perky ponytail with a perfect little ringlet on the ends, a la my Archie Girl of Choice, Betty.
It was only a few years ago, however, that I realized that a bouncy, slightly curled ponytail is not beyond reach even for those of us with troublesome tresses: all you do is first tease the front piece of your hair a bit to give it volume, and then curl large sections (you don’t want the curls to be too tight) of your hair about halfway up (not to the crown) with a medium-barreled curling iron. Smooth back the teased top portion and pull into a ponytail in the middle of your head. Obviously use a prettier elastic (or wrap some hair around it) if you want to get a little fancier.
And don’t forget to flip it around a bunch while drinking a milkshake; that’s always fun.
P.S. When Googling about for an image of Betty to link to, I discovered that Archie proposed in 2009?! To VERONICA??!
Devastated.
