Within moments of stepping through the door, I learn that the bartender/waitress likes a "hard spankin'," that the teenager smoking out front is apparently the chef, and that we will be able to find the best cheesesteaks around on this very spot.

Road Trip!
Instead of flying home (about $200 each one-way), we decided to rent a car and drive from North Carolina to Manhattan.
Happy Hour w/ Arax
Yesterday afternoon couldn't have been lovelier, so Arax (of KissandType) and I decided to switch our original plan - sushi at the delicious, albeit indoors, Amber - to Wicker Park.
Mia Dona Restaurant
At this morning’s BetterTV shoot at Mia Dona restaurant with “Hostess with the Mostest” Donatella Arpaia.
Last night, I met Lilit from TheGloss.com at the gloriously chic Raines Law Room.
Morgan and I celebrated a successful coffee table refurbish at Brother Jimmy’s BBQ. Her Bloody Mary included pickled green beans, which were recommended to me by a reader after I wrote this post last week, and which are not Morgan’s favorite (fine by me, as she just passed them in my direction).
We just had Chipotle wings and a couple of sides - baked beans with pulled pork and biscuits and gravy - and it was all fab. I still like the food at Southern Hospitality (Justin Timberlake’s BBQ joint, which is pretty much right across the street) a little better, but I prefer the more run-down, beer-y atmosphere at Brother Jimmy’s.
P.S. My camera is doing weird stuff lately - either blowing pictures out or turning them completely dark and blurry - so apologies. I did, however, just get a new camera…testing it out today…so hopefully things will take a turn for the better!
Eric & Jeremy
Last night, Morgan and I met up at Wicker Park for happy hour and were so hungry that the above wreckage happened before I even thought to take a photo. We had loaded potato skins (delicious, but I needed more than two), artichoke dip (too cheesy, if such a thing is possible), meh chicken fingers (Kendrick dropped in on us later and ate most of them), and beer.
So the food wasn’t incredible, but it’s bar food - I’m not looking to have my mind blown - and the Happy Hour deals at Wicker Park make it all worthwhile.
WICKER PARK HAPPY HOUR (M-F from 3-7):
- 1/2 price bar menu
Escargots
We spent Saturday morning camped out at Bentley’s At The Wheeler, which has a DIY Bloody Mary bar (!).
