DIY: From Wine Crate to TV Stand
With a little elbow grease and a little cash (about $50 max), an old wine crate can be transformed into a rustic-chic TV table that’s perfectly suited to the space constraints of a postage stamp-sized NYC apartment.

DIY Carnation Balls
An adorable decor idea from reader Megan, who helped make these for her cousin’s wedding (I think these would be gorgeous for everything from a baby shower to a birthday party):
DIY CARNATION BALLS
Just buy a round piece of florist’s foam (the same stuff Rebecca and I used when making the topiary centerpiece), wet it, snip off the stems of a bunch of carnations near the head, and then stick them into the foam until it’s completely covered. Hang from trees (or whatever) with ribbon.

DIY Wedding Favor / Lavender Sachets
I love lavender, as you may have noticed, and think that DIY lavender sachets make a beautiful (and inexpensive) gift. Just order tiny muslin bags (only $3.80 for 25 at sfherb.com) and loose lavender buds ($7.50 for a pound at sfherb.com), secure with a lovely piece of twine, and you’re done!
Wedding Favor Problem-Solver
I think that wedding favors are usually a big old waste of money. They’re expensive, no one ever likes them all that much, and they either end up getting left at the reception or tucked in the drawer next to the broom closet.
