Reader Anthea wanted some suggestions on how to wear camouflage pieces. At your service!
Here’s the thing about wearing camouflage: I’m usually a pile-on-the-crazy type of girl (see evidence here), but when you’re wearing a statement-making print like camouflage I really do think it’s best to let that one piece take center stage. My favorite way to wear camouflage: paired with layered neutrals (grey, white, khaki) and/or denim.
More ideas:
– Either silver or gold jewelry looks great with camouflage; I’m also always in favor of a little mixed-metal action.
– I know I said to stick to neutrals…but feel free to bend the rules with pops of bright color or pattern, like a hot-pink bracelet, tortoiseshell sunglasses, or a zebra-print belt.
– Try adding small mint green accents (like a nail polish or a pretty pair of earrings) to pull out the brighter shades of green in your camouflage piece.
– If you’d just like to test the waters with the look, try a camouflage accessory (that Rebecca Minkoff purse pictured above is one of my personal favorites; it goes with everything).
And I have a post in which I styled a pair of camo pants coming up later this week, so keep an eye out!
As with all trends, the most important thing is to incorporate an item in a way that makes you feel comfortable in your own skin and that’s gorgeous and glamorous not according to some magazine, but according to you. Cool factoid: a recent study by T.J. Maxx in partnership with Parsons The New School For Design’s Dr. Hazel Clark found that more than half of women view trends as little more than guidelines that they can make their own, and that 87% of women say that they are not controlled by fashion…but that they control fashion.
I think that is so cool.
So as always, remember that what I post here are nothing more than suggestions: the important thing is to take the look and make it your own.
After all, it’s just clothing.
It’s supposed to be fun.
