I’ve said before that I have a pretty cluttered beauty cabinet…and here’s the hard evidence.
That is a lot of products.
And the truth is that I’ve used most of them at least once – I write about beauty a lot on RG (and elsewhere), and really do try to take as many products as I possibly can for a spin so that I’m reasonably well-versed in what’s out there and reasonably capable of making decently informed comparisons between brands.
But clutter makes me crazy, and what I need now in my life is less. Of everything. And there’s no need to keep things that I’ve discovered don’t work for me, or things that are several months (or…okay…years) past their expiration date.
What I’m holding on to: the products that I use every single day, the products that I use more infrequently but absolutely adore, and the products that I have yet to test out (because tested out they will be).
Making the cut:
– Simple Skincare Ultra-Light Gel Moisturizer: this is a brand-new product from Simple, and one I’m so excited to try this spring and summer (it’s ultra-light and fast-absorbing);
– Provon Antimicrobial Soap: a great product to clean minor cuts and scrapes, and excellent for post-piercing care (I still use it on my upper-ear piercing every few days, because those take forever – we’re talking months and months – to heal completely);
– Lipstick Queen Saint Scarlet Red: the brand discontinued my beloved Saint Eden (whyyyy?), but this sheer-ish, non-drying watermelon-red shade is pretty close;
– Essie polishes in Fun In The Gondola and Mint Candy Apple;
– Simple Skincare Foaming Cleanser: a great product for getting it all (like, every last bit) off at the end of the day;
– Bio Oil: no stretch marks, plz (this stuff helps);
– Vaseline Spray ‘n’ Go Moisturizer: I’m all about this product, and expect that I’ll love it even more as it gets increasingly difficult to bend over and moisturize my legs;
– Elizabeth & James Nirvana White: a perfect fragrance to transition from winter to spring, with notes of peony and musk.
Ah. Much better.
P.S. Cake plates – I found the one pictured here at a swap meet and dyed it Depression glass-red – make excellent vanity organization trays, adding height and visual interest to the display. (Click here for more uses for cake plates.)
P.P.S. Don’t throw out your old candle jars, either – as you can see, they’re great for organizing things like makeup brushes, lip glosses and jewelry.
