Even if you’re more into casual outfits than cocktail dresses, the holiday season is a great time to add a little something extra to your look, and sparkling eye makeup (and a great pair of heels) makes even a basic button-down and jeans look party-ready.
This easy, silvery eye makeup look is a great option if you’re pressed for time, because it takes only minutes to create, and can easily be layered on top of the eye makeup that you were to the office during the day – metallics are like neutrals, and go with everything.
- Start by applying silver eye shadow (like Urban Decay’s Electric Palette in Revolt) all over the eyelid and up onto the browbone.
- Next, blend a grey shadow (preferably one with brown undertones, to give the final look a little warmth) into the crease and outer corner of the eyelid. Make sure to blend well, and add a little more silver eyeshadow to the top if you feel like you’ve lost too much of the metallic effect.
- Use a silver liquid eyeliner (try Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Liquid Glitter Eye Liner) to thickly line the upper lid, flicking the line upwards and outwards slightly at the outer corner of the eye.
- Trace the lower lash line with the silver eye liner, letting it meet the line that you drew on the upper lash line at both corners.
- Use a black liquid eyeliner (try Sephora’s Sephora Collection Liquid Eye Liner) to thinly line the upper lid, flicking the line upwards and outwards slightly at the outer corner of the eye. The line shouldn’t completely cover the line you drew with the silver eye liner.
- Finish by lining the lower water line with a black kohl pencil.
One note about metallic eye makeup: it can be tricky to remove, as the particles tend to cling to your skin and lashes. Try Simple Skincare’s Eye Make-Up Remover (or Eye Make-Up Remover Pads): they get off every last speck of makeup without irritating the sensitive eye area.
