Simple On The Sand
We were supposed to leave for a beach vacation in Ogunquit in just a few days (above is the video from our last trip to Maine - when I was about six months pregnant - so it's been awhile). A last-minute work obligation meant I needed to push our trip a week, but that doesn’t mean I can’t start getting excited about four full days of sandcastles and seaside walks and lobster rolls (and maybe a quick detour to New Haven for some Pepe’s pizza on the way home).
Before And After: Patio
I know: it's a sorry, sorry sight.
But honestly: I had no idea what to do with this space, to the point where it sat unused (and apparently unswept) for nearly a year.
Having a yard was already much too much outdoor space for me to wrap my little New York City girl mind around; I couldn't handle the additional challenge of figuring out what to do with a patio, as well. First of all, it was attached to my office - a room that we barely use anyways - so I frequently forgot it even existed. And second, I couldn't imagine why I'd sit there as opposed to...well, anywhere else. If we wanted to eat dinner outdoors, we'd probably sit at the big table in the yard, right?. And if we wanted to lounge around outside...well, we own a fire pit.
Weddings Just Outside The City (And A Question For You)
Q. Jordan,
I am a tiny tiny Jersey fish trying to plan my wedding to a NYC native and feel a li'l overwhelmed: we've got the beautiful love story...but not the NYC budget.
I was wondering if you could suggest some cool event spaces - any suggestions would be great!

Weekend Snapshots: Road Trip To Maine
This weekend, we road-tripped it up to Sebago Lake for the wedding of two of our best friends.
Summer Vacation Style With LOFT
Ogunquit Trip from Jordan Reid on Vimeo.
Every year, we try to make it to Ogunquit (the town in Maine where we got married; that video is from our trip last summer) for at least one weekend. This year our travel plans are sort of up in the air what with the total life upheaval and all, but we're still going to do our best to make it work. I need me some lobster rolls, mini golf, and seaside restaurants where "dinner attire" means capris and flip-flops.
Rocky Road & Poorly Executed Kisses
The two things that I have been craving more than anything else for the past few months are strawberries and ice cream. I want them all the time...in fact, I would like them now, please.
The strawberry obsession is fairly particular (strawberries, in a bowl, no fussing around), but the ice cream thing is far more flexible: if I have my druthers, I'd like a banana split, but anything will do, really. And the other day, what came readily to hand was some Rocky Road from the Baskin Robbins over on 44th and 10th.
If I am lucky enough to find myself in a Baskin Robbins, I am ordering Rocky Road, and you cannot stop me. It's been that way ever since the sixth grade, when one opened up just around the corner from my school and quickly became The Coolest Place Ever. It was at that Baskin Robbins, actually, that I had my very first date, and my very first abortive attempt at a kiss.
I took my best friend Tyler along with me on the date, because in sixth grade it was really crucial that we spend the entire time freaking out and giggling rather than paying any sort of attention to the poor dude. He took us to Baskin Robbins, because, like I said, it was the see-and-be-seen hotspot of the moment, and bought me a cup of Rocky Road (I was too shy to order a cone, which was what I really wanted; I thought a cup was more ladylike). And he (grudgingly) bought Tyler one too, which I thought was unspeakably chivalrous, and most definitely merited a serious commitment.
Feedback Time!
Those of you who have been reading RG from the beginning may have noticed that there have been lots of changes over the past few months - for example, I introduced Style and Baby tabs, cut down a little on the out-and-about stuff (save for Weekend Snapshots and event coverage), and tried to step it up with the photography.
Style-wise, posts have, in general, gotten a little longer-form, and there are fewer of them on each page (to help with page-load speed). I'm always trying to keep making things better around here...so I have a question for you:
How can I give you more of what you like?
Specifically, I think my posts can be more or less divided into the following categories:
Weekend Snapshots
Whenever we drive up to Maine, we try to leave some time for pit stops along the way. This time, we hit Cambridge just around 2PM, so we thought we'd stop in for lunch and to say hi to my old dorm (sort of pictured above).
Wonderful Little Birthday Celebrations
I turn 30 on Thursday. Yiiiikes. Also: pretty exciting; I've always looked forward to my thirties. My twenties weren't exactly smooth sailing, and I've always felt hopeful that this decade would be a great one.
