I read your blog all the time, and I so often relate to you on your "life advice" posts. I admire the help you are willing to offer your readers and am seeking advice on an issue.
In college, I majored in theater, and I love performing and acting so much. Since graduating a year ago, I have worked a couple of small gigs, but nothing big and nothing paying enough for me to not have a day job. So I'm working at a small (and quickly growing) start-up.
First dates for me are like first days of school. And what I wore to every single first day of school ever (seriously; I'm weird that way) has been a variation on white shirt/denim/brown leather accessories/one pop of color.
Of course the best way to achieve this look is by putting on your thrifting pants and hitting an excellent patch of luck, but if you're not into scouring your local flea markets, here are some purchase-able ways to get your own retro blend.

Remember how I said to be cautious when reprinting chef's recipes and changing things up, because chefs tend to be prickly about specifics? Well, when it's a family member's recipe you're reprinting, you can take a few more liberties con permiso. My Aunt Debbie calls these "Chocolate Chubbies" (admittedly also a cute name); I think they taste like brownies that have been transformed into adorable little crunchy cookie-cakes, and so here, on Ramshackle Glam, BrownieCakes they shall be.
Q. My boyfriend and I just got engaged and are planning on doing a destination wedding with just us two, then one big reception back in the States for both of our families and all of our friends.
I'm wondering if a) you have any cool ideas for locations or wedding packages for our wedding, and b) what your advice would be for breaking it to our families that they aren't invited to the ceremony - just the reception.
A. I love this idea. If a small, intimate affair is what you're looking for this is a great way to get the wedding you want while still including your friends and family in the celebration...plus it's a great way to cut costs if you keep the reception relatively informal.
When you're building a wardrobe from scratch, the easiest (and most cost-effective) way to go about doing that is to figure out what kind of silhouette you feel best in, buy a few key pieces to mix and match, and then add variety and interest with accessories.
What to wear to a wedding that's more "rockstar party" than "virgin bride."
Can you tell that I'm maybe compiling a bunch of these to have ready for the arrival of The Small One? Yes yes, I'll freeze a whole bunch of stuff to have at the ready for those first couple of weeks, but honestly, I'd rather spend the before-bed hours with my family than with the stove...
