DIY: From Wine Crate to TV Stand
With a little elbow grease and a little cash (about $50 max), an old wine crate can be transformed into a rustic-chic TV table that’s perfectly suited to the space constraints of a postage stamp-sized NYC apartment.
Huge Lips, Skinny Hips WinnerS (more than one)!
Surprise! I selected the winner randomly, as usual, but there were so many amazing entries that I chose a second winner: the one who sent in my fave summer makeup tip.
The winners:
Angie: "I definitely wear less makeup in the summer! Rarely wear foundation; some bronzer, some powder blush, mascara and the can't-live-without products are Bobbi Brown's long wear cream eye shadow and gel eye liner. Survives a hot, humid day like no ones business."
Rachael: "Hi Jordan!
My fave summer makeup tip is LESS IS MORE! I know, cliche? Well..kind of. I'm 20, and I'm still evolving and figuring out what works and what doesn't for me. I used to pile on the makeup to try and tame my gigantic eyes, but I decided to really tone it down this summer by brushing on a sheer beige with a sheen. Just a teeny emphasis, and I'm finding that I'm really liking my "natural" beauty a lot more. It's nice to finally start to feel comfortable with a feature I've felt self-conscious about my whole life.
Have a great week!"

Beautiful Sunny Day
Friday was...just perfect. A sampling of why:
First, I had lunch with Anna at Wasabi Lobby, which I frequent both because it is mere steps from our front door, and because "Wasabi Lobby" is really fun to say. Go on, try it.
I ordered my standard for when I don't really feel like thinking about what to get: a spicy tuna handroll and a salmon-avocado roll...but Anna's order was much, much better.
I mean, seriously. Is that not some gorgeous-looking sashimi?! And the accompaniments! All that is is the basic sashimi appetizer ($16 for 8 pieces) plus a raw quail egg with tobiko (which is probably a touch too adventurous even for me, but makes me very curious nonetheless).

Attendees at Style360 and Joonbug.com’s Fashionable Farewell to Ugly Betty (including cast members Vanessa Williams and Anna Ortiz) were treated to performances by Pras of the Fugees and Fabolous. It sounds fun, right? I wouldn’t know: I wasn’t feeling my best (as you can tell in the above photo), and we ended up going home at 10:30 to tea and chicken wings (again…sigh).
After the Ports 1961 show, I limped back home to divest myself of those freaking shoes and walk the kids. Before heading back to the tents to film an interview for RTL on celebs getting paid to sit in the front rows of shows, I changed into a vintage chiffon minidress, vintage boots and necklace (purchased for 50 cents in Texas while on a road trip with my dad), and a faux-fur vest.
I like this look better than the first choice of the day. Since I don’t own a whole lot of couture or particularly fashionista-impressing labels, my Fashion Week strategy involves wearing things that allow me to say, “Oh this? This is vintage.”
P.S. Check out our overflowing coatrack in the background. This was our solution to the fact that we have exactly one closet in the entire place…but now I frequently wake up in the middle of the night and think that a large, puffy creature is sitting in the corner, waiting to attack. Can’t WAIT for summer (when the coats head over to the lovely storage room at my parents’).
