It’s always exciting when I get to meet someone who reads Ramshackle Glam in real life: in the playground, at a restaurant, walking down the street. But never before have I had the opportunity to not just meet a reader…but to spend an entire morning hanging out with her, combing through the racks in search of a whole new fall wardrobe for her to bring home. So much fun.
Last week, I met up with Katie (the winner of my personal styling contest) at the midtown T.J.Maxx, and together we created three looks that both encapsulated her unique style and incorporated some of this fall’s top designer trends.
The “must-have fall fashion item” that Katie mentioned in her contest entry was her favorite pair of jeans, so while combing through T.J.Maxx for on-trend fall items that would nicely complement this piece I found an amazing cashmere sweater that I knew she’d love, a great jacket and a pair of gorgeous black heels.
After an epic trying-on session, we wandered around the store together to fill in the gaps with sunglasses, jewelry and bags (so many bags!), making sure that everything we found was not only a great fall piece…but also a great fall piece that Katie could wear for all sorts of occasions – from daytime straight through to evening. In other words: fun (but still functional) fashion that allows her to show off all her different style personas.
The three looks we ended up with:
1) A wear-everyday combo of a classic black cashmere sweater, gorgeous navy slip-on wedges and a nude clutch (we added a chunky gold necklace after I took this shot);
2) A black dress that fit Katie perfectly and had cool little leather crosshatch panels running down the sides, paired with beautiful nude pumps and a gold-accented black bag;
3) A casual grey shell, an army-green jacket with a nipped-in waist, and hidden-wedge grey suede boots.
