The Ramshackle Glam Gift Guide For Tween People 2023

MAN are tweens hard to shop for.

“So what do you want?”

“Whatever.”

“…You have…no opinions?”

[Shrugs, goes back to playing Roblox.]

OK, so we’re on our own, here. I suspect the reticence comes from a very sweet place – kids this age are sort of in limbo between still wanting toys (they’re still kids, after all), while also wanting to at least *appear* more grown-up.

Honestly? I think they really do want the toys. They’re just kind of embarrassed to want them. So the trick is finding stuff that feels a bit more adult, but still lets them…you know…play.

Woom Ergonomic Bike

My daughter has this bike, which is lightweight and ergonomically designed specifically for children, and it’s both showstoppingly gorgeous and a game-changer for mid-level riders. It comes packed flat, is easy to put together, and is available in sizes

(They’re having a special right now where you can save 10% by bundling a bike and three accessories, FYI.)

Two Million Dollar Puzzle

This 500-piece puzzle turns into a scannable code…which you then unlock to reveal whether you’ve won between $1 and $1 MILLION. (Everyone, apparently, wins something.) I am beyond excited to give this to my 12-year-old – and as a bonus, it’ll be a fun thing for us to do together on Christmas Day.

3/11

Bubble Skincare

My daughter and her friends are obsessed with this cruelty-free, vegan brand – it’s not just effective, it’s also adorable (the packaging! So cute. And there are sweet little extras – the moisturizer, for example, comes out of the bottle in a flower shape).

4/11

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza

This is the best family game – easy to play, and guaranteed to have everyone gasping laughing. If you don’t have it, get it. Good for younger kids, too.

5/11

Draw-On Tattoo Pens

You know, to get ’em thinking about their future designs. (Kidding, kidding – besides, my kids would never get real tattoos anyway because their mom has so many, thereby rendering them deeply uncool). These are skin-safe and water-resistant (but wash off with soap), and the kit comes with 8 colors and a bunch of stencils.

How To Draw Awesome Stuff

Designed for those who “dare to explore the darker and more unconventional side of drawing,” this step-by-step book teaches kids how to create all sorts of spooky images…beautifully.

7/11

The Everybody Gets Anxious Activity Book

This is my favorite of our books; I think the artwork is spectacular and the take-home is meaningful and enduring (speaking from personal experience). Plus, it’s just FUN.

8/11

Rolife DIY Miniature Houses

I am utterly obsessed with this entire line of miniature DIY dollhouses – there’s a greenhouse, a bookstore, a bakery, and so much more, all with fantastic attention to detail. I would have died for one of these (…and still would, tbh).

9/11

Kikkerland Mini Microphone

As seen on Tiktok (allegedly), this teeny-tiny mic attaches to your cellphone and lets you sing along and record.

10/11

Kitsch Airpod Case

I mean, these are pretty cute. I’ve seen them in the shape of Skittles, Doritos, Boba-drinking cats, Cheez-Its, Hubba Bubba, and so much more.

11/11

Freeze-Dried Cosmic Crunchies

The word on the street is that all the kids are super into these. Don’t ask me; I just work here.
