This happened last week, and it was so much fun, and I totally forgot to write about it. (If I’ve seemed slightly checked-out these past few days, there’s an extremely good reason for it – I’ll explain very soon.)
I used to be big on painting and drawing – I even went to art school during the summer of 1998 and spent hours and hours every day drawing naked people (an example, above) and painting fountains and buildings – but in the past few years…not so much. I really like it; I just…sort of forget that it’s an option, I suppose, and default to things like reading and knitting and watching Lindsay to relax.
Painting is a better way to spend your time than watching Lindsay. I feel fairly confident about that statement.
Anyway, Katie Rodgers of Paperfashion, who did the cover and illustrations for the RG book, hosted an event for Ugg Australia that involved – yes – painting…and so I jumped at the opportunity to both meet her in person for the first time…and paint. While wearing cute slippers and eating lemon squares.
I also got to hang out with the cutest puppy in the world. (Tell me that’s not the cutest puppy in the world. I’m not sure what kind it is, but I think I need to know for future reference.)
Some of the paintings created by event guests (mine is the red dress in the top row).
And finally: a little entertaining inspiration for you. I’ve gone on and on and on about how much I love collecting vintage cake plates because they’re both beautiful and useful, and this is a prime example: they make stunning backdrops for everything from jewelry to perfume bottles to hors d’oeurves and mini desserts.
Especially striking: find a plate in a bright color (like the blue version above), and then use it to display contrasting items. Lemon squares are delicious generally…but don’t they look even better like this??
