For Better Or Worse

7 years ago today.

Facebook memories needs to come with a trigger warning.

Here is the realization I had this morning, while coordinating a virtual army of people to help me care for my children while I'm on my business trip this week: Life will never be the same.

The Spring Edit, Because Procrastination

Blech.

I'm headed back to NYC this week to film another segment of my super-secret project (it's not that secret; I just have to hold on mentioning specifics until it's done), and I have twenty thousand articles and posts and books and projects I need to be working. on. Usually the more I have to do the more productive I am, but something has happened in my brain today and I cannot.

So instead of doing any of the things I technically have to do in order to remain gainfully employed, I am going to show you some wardrobe additions that I'd really like to make happen this Spring. #solidlifechoices #attagirl

The Saga Of The Single Missing Sock

Don't worry, I'm not going to tell you to participate in this insanity.*

Alright, but seriously: Where do the socks GO? Wherrrrrre? (Maybe Lucy eats them...?) I am certain that you feel me on this, because The Single Missing Sock appears to be a universal problem. It's one I've tried to solve at various points over the years - most recently by allowing every single sock to stay in the laundry basket upon being cleaned, presumably awaiting reunion with its mate. And yet?

The mates never showed. And so I was left with a small city of single socks partying in the bottom of my laundry basket.

Giveaway: Hungryroot & Made In Cookware

Giving away a fun little Spring kitchen refresh over on IG, and wanted to make sure I posted it here too in case y'all want to enter. 5 winners will receive a week's worth of Hungryroot, plus the (gorgeous) limited-edition made in pan pictured above. ⁣⁣

A reminder about how Hungryroot works: You tell them what you’re into and how often and when you’d like deliveries, and they send you over a box full of nutrient-dense, clean-ingredient, mostly plant-based (and, somewhat inexplicably, extremely delicious) food that can either be eaten as-is, or can be cooked up in – I kid you not – like two minutes. You can integrate what they sent into your own meals, or combine them to come up with tons of different recipes.

And Made In is a new discovery of mine, but I'm super into the products: The company's goal is to make high-quality cookware accessible to everyone, and their pots, pans and chef's knives are both functional and gorgeous.
⁣⁣
Here's how to enter:⁣⁣
1. You must be following @ramshackleglam ⁣⁣
2. You must be following @hungryroot⁣⁣
3. You must be following @madein ⁣⁣
4. Tag a friend for an extra entry ⁣⁣

Open to US residents only; 5 winners will be picked at random on Sunday, 4/28.

Camilla Confetti Frame Chain | The Drift Handmade Ring

You know how you're always either hanging your glasses off the front of your shirt (and then bending over and having them slide out and break, blech), or just putting them down somewhere and just losing them altogether? Me, too. You need to know about Rakas frame chains (which also happen to be unexpectedly adorable).

When I wrote about my rediscovered fascination with press-on nails, a reader recommended I check out Static Nails, and YES. I have these on my fingertips right now and could not be more obsessed.

I Think It’s Just What We Needed

Omni Hotel & Resort | Rancho Las Palmas

I chose the location for our mini Spring Break-within-a-Spring-Break more or less randomly: I googled "best hotels for families in Southern California," which led me to learn about what a Lazy River was, which led me to the website for the Omni Hotel in Rancho Las Palmas - right outside Palm Springs, and just a three-hour drive from our house.

So I booked two nights at the Omni, and now I am going to tell you all about this place, because it's glorious. I had such a good time, in fact, that I took only a handful of photos - hence the sadly sparse photo coverage below. But I think, on balance, that speaks (very) well for the place.

A Sign, If I Ever Saw One

I'm in Palm Springs for two days with my kids - the "vacation" part of our Spring Break. I woke up early to get a few emails out before they wake up, but just sat down at the desk to find a computer with 1% battery, and a phone with not much more.

Did I remember to bring chargers? Like, any of them?

I did not.

Tampons are down there in the rankings of "Things I enjoy buying" with sports bras and antibacterial hand soap. I know it's not a big deal to buy them; I know next time I want them I will very much wish I had thought ahead; I just hate doing it. And what that means is that I do the "fffffff I'm out of tampons" dance on the regular (you know exactly the one I'm talking about).

File my new discovery under "How did this not occur to me (or everyone) before?"

The Weekday Parent

At my son's open house last night, we were given a checklist with the different projects on display, so we could make sure to see them all. There was a wall where the kids had written about their favorite part of first grade (my son wrote "getting to eat breakfast in school," because he has his priorities straight), and a wall displaying illustrated book reports of their favorite Dr. Seuss story. The last project on the checklist was "My Home." There were little spaces where the kids filled in various facts about their home - how many pets they have, that kind of thing.

In my home, there are 3 pets, my son wrote. There is 1 adult and 2 kids.

I scanned the other kids' projects, doing the now-familiar hunt for Another Divorced Person (I look for them everywhere - at drop-offs and playgrounds and amusement parks; they're not usually hard to spot). Two of his classmates had 6 people living in their home (4 adults and 2 kids). The majority of them had 4 (2 adults and 2 kids). But - national statistics be damned - nobody else had "1 adult."

An Argument In Favor Of Press-On Nails (Really)

The dream

I've had dalliances with fake nails in the past. I know acrylics aren't great for your nails - and I extra-know this because one of these dalliances ended with water seeping into the space between the acrylic and my real nails, unbeknownst to me, and turning my nails a glorious and semi-permanent chocolate brown (oh yes, that happened) - but they're just so tempting.

As a person who is genetically incapable of growing her nails beyond the ends of her fingertips without them essentially dissolving, there are few things that make me feel more elegant and feminine than perfectly shaped, perfectly polished long nails. And in pursuit of that goal I've basically tried it all: gel polish, strengthening polish, letting my nails breathe to see if they'll reward me by growing, and - yes - acrylics.
