There are lots of childhood memories that I have a…let’s call it a “new perspective” on, now that I’m a parent.
Oh my god, mom. I’m so sorry.
I’m sorry for deciding that I needed to be a house for Halloween when I was three, and then immediately removing said house from my person, thereby forcing you to carry around a full-on HOUSE while I trick-or-treated.
I’m sorry for rejecting all that very nice clothing you bought me, and instead going to school wearing purple crushed-velvet wizard’s robes with batwing sleeves that trailed on the floor (yikes).
I’m sorry for falling asleep on the couch with a leaky pen in my hand that one time, because now I have a couch that I love, too, and I would be very sad if someone turned it blue.
I’m sorry I made you separate every. single. atom of my Thanksgiving dinner so that NO PART of the cranberry sauce touched ANY PART of the turkey (for a good five years).
And I’m really, really sorry about that time that my French boyfriend broke up with me and I returned home from being dumped and you were all excited to show me your beautiful new kitchen wallpaper (which was very unfortunately covered with French love poems), and rather than telling you that it was pretty collapsing on the floor shrieking WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO MEEEE.
Sorry.
