Who knew our picnic blanket would be such a hit?

I’ve been meaning to go to Off The Grid – a gourmet mobile food market that travels around the Bay Area – for months now, and when I went up to stay in San Francisco with Morgan for the night we decided to take all our many, many children to the Presido Picnic. (To clarify, we technically only have four children between us, but four people under age 5 who have been plied with M&Ms and then released into the wild feels like approximately twenty.)
When we arrived it was windy and a little chilly, and we were only planning to stay for forty-five minutes or so. We ended up staying for three hours; it was that much fun. Fire pits got lit, wine bottles got broken out, and our children sat a line watching the band, like the most adorable little groupies ever. The food (or at least the food that we tried, from the Vietnamese food truck) ranged from “okay” to “pretty good” (with the bahn mi being a much bigger hit than the too-dry garlic noodles), but it honestly didn’t matter one bit, because we bought a bottle of rose for twenty bucks, met up with a couple of friends who were visiting town, and then sat by the fire while our kids rolled around in a picnic blanket. And that’s a well-spent afternoon if I’ve ever had one.
