Thank you so much for all your suggestions re: what to do with the wall color for the nursery (which I guess should now officially be called a “Little Boy’s Room”). I ended up deciding on a grey, but went for one with blue undertones to make it feel a little brighter.
I love it. (I think Indy loves it, too.)

My favorite thing about the paint I (or rather “we”) chose – Benjamin Moore Sweet Innocence – is that I feel like it gives me lots of room to bring in splashes of color. I especially love the shade with bold primary colors (like the colors in the bedspread, which is lumpy-looking because I cannot figure out how to neatly make a bed with a comforter and a toddler rail).
For the walls, I chose a vintage tin Coca-Cola sign handed down from my parents. It used to hang on the wall of the office, but since that’s now going to be a nursery I wanted to move it elsewhere…and I love the idea of a graphic, old-school poster in a little kid’s room. More extras: a dreamcatcher that my dad and I bought in New Mexico while on a cross-country road trip, a painting that Kendrick did on our honeymoon in Bali, and a Spiderman desk-chair, of course. Can’t forget that.
Summary: I’m not really a primary-colors girl, and when we had our son one of the things that I wasn’t too psyched about was suddenly having a red-blue-yellow explosion in our otherwise very soft-colored home, but I’ve actually discovered that if you keep the background palette neutral and focus on adding primary colors in retro ways (classic toys, vintage artwork, et cetera) the effect isn’t only non-eyeball-searing…it’s actually…(dare I say?)…
pretty stylish.
P.S. The Dwell Studio Savoy Glider is one of my favorite pieces in our home – I think it’s such a great investment for a new mom. It’s incredibly comfortable, and the neutral color and simple shape mean that it works in a kid’s room, but still feels sophisticated enough to work when the child grows up (or elsewhere in the house).
