Me and my milk and my emails, 7AM
With two kids in the house, there is a lot of milk that gets consumed on a daily basis. And in our house, it’s even more than you’d expect, because my five-year-old and my two-year-old aren’t the only ones interested in the stuff. (Just to be clear, they’re primarily interested when it’s located next to cookies or on top of fluorescent cereal puffs, in case you were under the impression that I was raising Health Angels. I’m not.)
Not infrequently, I’ve had a houseguest comment on my habit of waking up, walking directly to the refrigerator, and pouring a massive glass of (super-cold) milk. “Jordan?” they ask. “Are you…what are you doing?”
Apparently enjoying a nice big glass of milk is not a thing that the above-eight crowd typically does. (Or maybe they’re commenting on my other habit, which is drinking straight out of the carton – and something I usually try to only do when no one is watching.)
But drinking a glass of milk has just always made me feel so good. Especially on mornings when I’m feeling a little under-the-weather: a cold coming on, too little sleep, too much “celebrating,” general malaise. I don’t know why; it’s always seemed to calm not only my stomach, but my whole body. Even my mind. It’s an insta-boost.
I’ll take the one on the right, please.
And do you know what I discovered recently? fairlife Chocolate Milk, which is not only “a boost”…it is my New Favorite Thing. (I am not exaggerating when I say that I would absolutely choose a glass of fairlife Chocolate Milk over those lovely-looking chocolate pieces up there. It’s that good.) Unfortunately this particular chocolate milk is also Kendrick’s New Favorite Thing, which means that if I want my morning chocolat I either have to stock up on the stuff in bulk or move very, very quickly. (I’m serious: I have watched him go through an entire bottle in one. day.)
As chocolate-consumption vehicles go, however, I feel excellent about this one, because fairlife – as I’ve mentioned before – is basically a nutritional miracle (it’s ultra-filtered to increase protein and calcium, decrease sugar, and remove lactose…and all with no additives whatsoever).
So sure, “Honey, would you like a nice big glass of milk?” may be a sentence more typically directed towards a preschooler…but when it’s this good – and good for you – I think grownups get a glass, too.
