I love Mother’s Day.
Not because it’s a day when my mom and I get to spend time together – we do that plenty anyways – but rather because we always end up getting dressed up and doing something sort of adorably Mother’s Day-ish, like afternoon tea or brunch somewhere fancy (like we did last year, pictured above) or what have you.
Something different. Memory-making. You get the idea.
And last Sunday, I got to do the most fun thing ever as an early Mother’s Day celebration: surprise my mom by depositing her in my car, driving her the mall, walking her into Ann Taylor, and telling her to pick out a head-to-toe outfit for her very own Mama Makeover.
Obviously she enjoyed it just a little bit (that’s her trying on an outfit that she didn’t end up choosing for her head-to-toe, but that she loved so much she ended up going home with anyway: a floral shell and a pair of black shorts just like the ones that I own in yellow).
Want to see the end result??
How cute is this?! She’s the best.
And I love the outfit; especially the fact that the top and cardigan can easily go from work to weekend to whatever, all year round.
On Mom: Ann Taylor Crew Neck 3/4 Sleeve Cardigan, striped tank, Mara Ankle Strap Leather Kitten Heel Sandals and Signature Cotton Sateen Straight-Leg Pants (all c/o); my Swati Jr* necklace and Brahmin bag.
Because I’m a mama too, I decided to do my own mini-makeover, and picked up a knit sweater in the prettiest-ever shade of coral and a pair of silky pants with an elastic cuff. They’re awesome, seriously: you can push the elastic up on your legs for a kind of chic-slouchy casual effect, or let them fall to the longer (just above the ankle) length for work.
And then put my new pieces on the moment I got home.
And plan to wear them again on for-real Mother’s Day (weather permitting).
On me: Ann Taylor Striped Linen Sweater (FYI, I went up two sizes for a more relaxed fit), Relaxed Ankle Pants and Melinda Maria earrings (c/0), Sophia Forero ring, Elizabeth & James sunglasses, rose gold heels from T.J. Maxx.
If you’d like to give your own mom a makeover, this weekend (May 4-6) Ann Taylor is holding personal styling sessions for mothers, daughters and friends – including sweets and complimentary beauty treatments with every purchase. (Book your appointment here.)
Finally, just because: here’s my favorite-ever photo of us.
