Every summer, the Intrepid (the aircraft carrier that we visited last year on Kendrick’s birthday) holds a Free Summer Movie Series, and last night Kendrick, Carla and I headed over to check out Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. Obviously. Because it was Raiders of the Lost Ark. On an aircraft carrier!
After the jump, more photos…plus a little trivia contest (scroll all the way to the bottom).
The wait (best to get there by 7 at the latest for a sundown screening) was totally non-miserable because it was more of a picnic than a “line”, per se: everyone just ate, chatted, and watched the sun set over the Hudson. We brought prosciutto, fig & goat cheese sandwiches from the Beer & Cheese Shop on 9th Avenue and 46th Street, and partook liberally of the ice-cream stand set up nearby.
Left, the sun sets behind the Intrepid. Right, the site of the screening. Amazing, no?
The Indiana Jones trilogy (I don’t count the fourth one, because it’s fine, but totally doesn’t compare to the brilliance of the first three) comprises some of our favorite movies of all time, and our love of the series is actually one of the first things we discovered we had in common (well, that and our shared appreciation of Big Ones). Kendrick even wants to name our first daughter Indiana (not happening).
My favorite of the three? I have a very unpopular opinion: I like Temple of Doom (the Kate Capshaw one) best. Come on: it has bugs! And elephants! And still-beating, bloody hearts! And MUSICAL NUMBERS.
Musical numbers!
What’s your favorite Jones film?
Now for a little trivia contest: The first person to send me a Tweet (@ramshackleglam) telling me what’s going on in the above shot wins a fun little surprise.
P.S. There are only two screenings left this summer: Rocky (which I think I’ll skip; I might be the only human being on the planet who can’t stand that movie), and Iron Man (I don’t really have a choice in the matter with that one, and hey, all Robert Downey Jr is good Robert Downey Jr).
