Upper West Side, NYC

Sooooo many good things happened during the week I just spent in New York (ate at Sugarfish! TWICE! Had the cheese sampler at Casellula! Discovered that the Children’s Museum has a horrifying-yet-mesmerizing toilet display that helpfully informs you via highly explicit visuals what “healthy” and “unhealthy” poop looks like!) but have to say, one of the most fun things was tramping around the city with my daughter in matching pom pom sneakers.

Santa’s chocolate chip cookies are getting an upgrade this year. (35 Christmas Cookies That Make This the Best Time of Year, via HuffPo.)

I don’t know whether everyone on the planet just got pregnant in time for Christmas or what, but The Big Fat Activity Book For Pregnant People is holding steady at #3 on Amazon’s bestseller list for pregnancy and childbirth, and I am DYING. Dyinnnnnnnng. (And also having so much fun working on the next one.)

Did you know that if you order via Sears’ app, Shop Your Way members can literally pull up outside the store and have their items brought out to them in five minutes or less? If you are a parent, you understand why this is nothing short of a miracle (video evidence here).

I randomly tried on Maison Francis Kurkdijan Baccarat 540 perfume at a fancy drugstore the other day, and I don’t think I’ve ever been so completely obsessed with a fragrance. It’s musky, but not heavy; sweet, but not cloying, and just keeps getting better and more interesting the longer it sits on your skin. It’s also really expensive, which means I’m making the little sample bottle the lady at the counter gave me last as long as humanly possible.

I have a lot to say about Al Franken’s resignation last week and keep trying over and over again to write a post on it, but am so emotional about this topic that it’s tough. This article from the Nation sums up my feelings pretty concisely.

Related, and a sentiment I agree with: I’m Not Convinced Al Franken Should Quit, via NY Times. (Before you pile on me, please read the article.)

Loving the @somewhereiwouldliketolive IG account lately, and specifically fawning over this photo. (Francesca sent it to me as inspiration for our garage loft area. I concur.)

“It feels less exhausting to do everything rather than to battle with your partner so that he will do his share.” This cartoon about the mental load borne by women in our society NAILS it.

the NARS wanted palette for eyeshadow

The NARS Wanted palette (which lots and lots of you guys have asked me about; it’s what I’ve been wearing on IG lately) contains neutrals ranging from pale pink to sheer bronze to deep chocolate – some with sparkle in them, some without – and is all you need to make your regular makeup all fancy and holiday-ready.

I bought these side-stripe leggings at Zara the other day, and wish I had bought them in a couple of additional colors, because they are amazing. Super flattering on the waist and butt, with the perfect amount of flare at the ankle.

I picked up a record for Kendrick at a used records shop last week and apparently paid…well, a lot more than I should have. If you’re into Phil Spector and holiday music, here you go (it’s $3.99 at Best Buy).

Fictional short stories almost never get a ton of attention. This one – about a night of bad sex – went viral. Give it a read. (Cat Person, via The New Yorker.)

In the winter, I’m in a constant battle against cracked, bleeding fingertips (sorry, ugh, I know). I randomly picked up The Naked Bee Hand & Cuticle Healing Salve while waiting on the checkout line at Ace Hardware – and I’ve never heard of the brand before, but now I will never again be without it. It’s one of the few products I’ve ever found that really works both to heal and to prevent further dryness.

Personally, I actively seek out terribly decorated houses when I’m looking to buy; a lot of people can’t see past hideous wallpaper, which is all the better for you. (5 Things That Truly Don’t Matter When You’re Buying Your First House, via HuffPo.)

The latest entry in the Does It Come In My Size? category: This Zara Baby Wonder Woman sweatshirt.

twin orange kittens climbing Christmas tree

Nope. Nope, nope, nope. (My lunatic twin kittens are all over my IG stories these days, just FYI in case you enjoy videos of lunatic twin kittens.)

…You think? (People On Twitter Are Pretty Pissed About These Photos for Plus-Sized Tights, via HuffPo.)

Dooney & Bourke just released a collection of bucket bags emblazoned with NFL logos. This isn’t really my thing, but the bags are cute and I figured someone who’s a huge football fan might freak out over them, so I figured I’d mention it here.

  4. Click to submit. Done.

This article about attachment styles and how they affect children over the long-term gives me the panics – so wonderful to hear that you may have irreversibly screwed up your child by age 1! – but is also a really interesting read. (Yes, It’s Your Parents’ Fault, via NY Times.)

This K-Beauty Bubble Mask is so much fun – you put it on and it explodes into bubbles, and feels fizzy and wonderful and leaves your face all lovely and soft.

Whatever, I still love my snail slime. (I Grew Up Around Korean Beauty Products. Americans, You’ve Been Had, via NY Times.)

the city harvest cookbook

If you don’t know about City Harvest, they’re a phenomenal organization that helps the hungry by rescuing food that would otherwise be wasted – and then delivering it to soup kitchens and food parties across the city. Pictured above is their gorgeous new cookbook featuring recipes from the city’s top restaurants – and it’s great. please consider supporting City Harvest by donating to their efforts, or by picking up a copy of the cookbook (and P.S., if you mention @cityharvestnyc on Instagram with the hashtag #WeAreCityHarvest – you can RT my post if that’s easiest – you’ll be entered to win a copy signed by Eric Ripert and Florence Fabricant).
