John Sahag Workshop Keratin Treatment

Good news for you, as the summer humidity kicks in:

I obviously can’t get Keratin at the moment (that’s a shot from a rainy – and ordinarily majorly frizz-inducing – day a couple of months after my first treatment, hence the remarkably smooth hair and alcoholic beverage)…but that doesn’t mean that you can’t!

Yesterday I stopped into John Sahag Workshop and confirmed with them that if you mention Ramshackle Glam you get 10% off of a Keratin treatment with Doug Macintosh (my Keratin-and-color guy; Karmela is my go-to for cuts, and Franny does a killer blow-out with flat iron curls). Plus, any RG readers who are new to the salon can get 10% off of any and all services through the month of August.

I’ve gone on and on (and on) about Keratin enough – read all about the process here, check out a video here, and read about how it affects your hair in different conditions here. In a nutshell: if you have summer frizz, prepare to not understand how your hair could possibly be so wonderful.

(And for those of you who are pregnant or otherwise uninterested in Keratin, consider a Moroccan Oil treatment to combat summer frizz. JSW offers them as an add-on to color and cuts – or you can buy the stuff and try it out at home.)

P.S. A couple of you have asked me if the process – I’ve had…I think four at this point* – changes your hair texture permanently, and the answer, for me, is yes, but only slightly. It’s been about eight months since my last treatment (they technically last up to six months), and my hair is a tiiiiiiny bit less frizzy and better-behaving than it used to be. It’s also a little more relaxed-beachy-wave than lioness-curl when I let it roam free, but it seems to be gradually reverting to its old (bad) behavior as time passes.
