My Looks

Leather-Bound

I’m having a little leather moment, as you can see.

I’ve always been big on leather jackets (it’s the ex-motorcycle chick in me) and own more of them than one person really should, but one territory I’ve never ventured into before is leather shorts. They made me nervous…which makes sense, because they are more often than not very short, very tight, and very much “HELLO I AM WEARING LEATHER SHORTS.” I don’t mind my outfit shouting a bit, but I wasn’t sure leather shorts were saying quite what I’m in the mood to say at this point in my life.

Except…I finally caved and picked up a (faux) pair, and guess what I discovered? They can totally speak at a normal volume. Be edgy, but still classic. Sexy, but still refined. Almost…subtle, even (not quite).

It’s the Two Body Parts At A Time, Please rule: if you’re wearing a piece that exposes one major section of your body, you should probably tuck away (most of) the others. A dress with a plunging neckline, for example, can be sleeveless…but looks more elegant cut in a longer length. A minidress looks way more chic if it doesn’t stick to your midsection like Saran Wrap and is paired with long (or at least 3/4) sleeves.

And short leather shorts? Just throw on a cozy knit sweater and a pair of over-the-knee boots and call yourself (not so) crazy.
