Journey To The Valley

One of Kendrick’s best friends from business school has been staying with us for the past week, and so this weekend we figured we’d show him one of our favorite places (definitely in Northern California, and very possibly in the world). Mill Valley is the town that I visited with Morgan way back when I was about three months pregnant, and we ate pasta on a sunny terrace, and on the drive back of the bridge to Morgan’s place I called Kendrick and told him that I was totally on board with him looking for a job in the Bay Area. I think what I said is “We have to live in Mill Valley one day.”

As it turned out, we have neither the five trillion dollars (in cash, plz and thanks) required to purchase property in Marin, nor the desire to have Kendrick spend four hours a day commuting to and from the South Bay. Love it for a day trip (and for some maybe-way-in-the-future-post-lottery-winning fantastizing), though.

WHAT TO DO IN MILL VALLEY:

Grab lunch at Piazza D’Angelo (sit on the back porch, and please drink some rose and eat some pasta)

Eat organic desserts at Beth’s Community Kitchen. Everything there is made from locally sourced ingredients, and if all of this sounds very tra-la-la California, trust me: I am SUPER disinterested in extolling the virtues of anything just because of organic and locally sourced and et cetera et cetera. I want cookies to taste good, please. These taste REALLY good.

Pick up an extremely cool shirt for the guy in your life at Famous4 (Kendrick and I browse every time we go, and this time we decided to finally splurge; the store has women’s clothing too, but the men’s button-downs are really good).

Get gelato at Noci Gelato, where they hand-make their product every morning from exclusively seasonal, local ingredients.

– Take the shuttle to Muir Woods for “hiking” (in quotation marks because we ambled rather than hiked, but you can totally hike if that’s your thing). And about that shuttle: you can drive and try to park, but you will likely fail. Just take the shuttle from Mill Valley; it makes life easier.

Eat a bahn mi with an IPA on the side at Boo Koo, right in the center of town.

Pick up some stuff for your kids at Sprout San Francisco – they have the cutest stuff ever (think baby aviator-style goggles for wearing in the pool, the most amazing silicone place mat/bowl contraptions, and adorable toys and clothing). Also all organic and natural. …Are we seeing a trend?

Oh, look! A family photo! …Sort of. (Thanks for trying, Evan.)
