I must confess: when it comes to cold-weather brunches, I’m a major creature of habit (mostly because I wake up VERY hungry, and the slush doesn’t inspire me to go trekking around the city in search of new finds). Most weekends, we sort of lazily rotate between Doc Watson’s (pictured above left), Southern Hospitality, Gina La Fornarina, Yorkville Creperie (pictured above right), and Wicker Park. I wouldn’t say that these are necessarily my favorite spots in the city (although, hello, brunch pizza, and hello, 2-drinks-and-entree-for-$11.95)…but they’re the closest.
Lately, though, I’m bored. Like, reallllly bored. I have eaten pizza aplenty, and I’m in search of some brunch inspiration.
Which leads me to Brunch Critic, a site founded by my good friend Andrea (she’s pictured above with Morgan and me at another great brunch spot, Dos Caminos). You can filter by neighborhood and mood, ask the community for recommendations, and even scroll through an extensive library of mouthwatering brunch photos to discover where you can go to eat that exact dish.
Some of Brunch Critic’s top Brunch Picks:
Notable Bloody Mary: Cafeteria, Rye House
Notable Pancakes: 44 & X (woot!), The Smith
