This is not my bathroom. But mine will be pretty too! (Eventually.)
Our bathroom is a dark, depressing cave. Both of them are, actually. When I decided to renovate them (and yes, I decided to renovate both of them at the same time, OBVIOUSLY, because why have one non-functioning toilet when you can have two?! WHEEEEEE), one of my major goals was to make them feel…well, like places I wanted to spend time in. As opposed to dark, depressing caves.
Check Out: Our master bathroom here, and our hallway bathroom here.
Light, of course, is key. And ohhhhhmygoodness, I found some gorgeous light fixtures that I’ll be showing you ASAP, but sometimes nothing does the trick like a little au naturale illumination.
Which is to say: there is, at present, a large hole in our bathroom wall.
In the master bathroom, there was a little window to start with – like a teeeeeeny tiny window waaaaaaay up high near the ceiling, which let in at least one ray of sunshine per day. Amazing! But when you’re putting a fancy-pants Japanese soaking tub into your bathroom, my feeling is that this Japanese soaking tub should sit near an actual window that lets in a minimum of two rays of sunshine per day, because maybe then a cartoon budgie will flit down out of a tree and land on your finger. Or something.
One problem: our bathroom wall faces our backyard. And we have friends over really quite a lot, and while I love my friends (and acknowledge that a solid 75% of them have probably seen me in various states of undress through no fault of their own), they do not need to see me bathing. Not that I will ordinarily be bathing during parties, but hey: you never know. So the original plan was to do a fairly standard semi-opaque window in the master bathroom, thereby letting in all the light and none of the prying eyes, but then I thought WAIT.
This is a phenomenal opportunity for a little something extra, no?
So I bought a Frank Lloyd Wright Tree of Life-inspired glass window and in the course of purchasing this window I did a bunch of research on how to incorporate stained glass into your home decor in various ways…so now let’s please look at some more inspiration pictures because they’re gorgeous.
P.S. If you’re into this idea, definitely go ahead and scour thrift stores and flea markets in search of stained glass. But if you’re not a thrifter, the eBay seller who made my bathroom window-to-be has a ton of other beautiful styles.
