I’m a big white-in-the-winter person (as we saw yesterday)…a big white-all-year-round person, actually.
Really: is the “don’t wear white after Labor Day” even a thing, anymore?
I don’t think so.
But it is a little tricky: go for pieces that are too light and breezy, and you risk a tourist-just-off-the-plane-from-Bermuda vibe, rather than the chic effect you’re more likely going for. So let’s talk how to do it!
– Choose sturdier or more luxe fabrics (for example, a thick cashmere or corduroy rather than light silk;
– Ground the look with darker elements (like a black top, bag, and shoes, as in Look No. 1, above…but make sure to space the darker items throughout your outfit, or the look may end up feeling unbalanced);
– Look for textured pieces, like cable-knitting or ribbing (but skip embroidery, which can feel very warm-weather);
– Make sure all your white pieces are crisp and tailored, like Nicole Richie’s outfit – items that are too bohemian and flowy say “summer”;
– Play with contrast by adding a pop of color (anything from a bright coat a la Allison Williams to a classic red lip);
– I don’t personally love white jeans in the winter – but I do love Look No. 4, above, with the oversized sweater and graphic heels.
