So I bought these pants.
Here they are photographed in Milan by The Sartorialist, worn in a manner that is kind of amazing but makes absolutely no sense in my life. Also I don’t own chocolate-colored smocks or Valentino pumps, or stand on the street dramatically texting while people photograph me. (Or I don’t often, at least.)
I bought them because they were on sale at Zara for so little that I thought they must have been mis-marked (they weren’t), and because I’ve never worn anything like them and lately I’m in the mood for some experimentin’.
And then I brought them home, and realized that I had no idea how to wear them.
Because they are brown. Like, brown-brown. And very high-waisted. And very wide-legged. And hit me at mid-calf. And each of these things on their own would be mildly perplexing to me, but together? They’re like the Grand Conundrum Of Fashion (or at least my fashion, which typically involves pants that are in every way the opposite of these).
But? I’ve been surprising myself by wearing them all the time. Like, everywhere. Because I decided that rather than get all I-need-to-find-the-exact-right-thing-to-wear-them-with, I’d just…wear them. With whatever.
First up: with a cream turtleneck and bright-blue heels, for a trip to our favorite Korean BBQ restaurant. We’ll call this the Sad-Looking Jordan In Black And White Photoshoot.
On Me: Zara Culottes; Helmut Lang Sweater (via TJ Maxx; similar here); Nine West Pumps (they’re royal blue); Sunday Somewhere Sunglasses.
And next, for our grownups-and-kids crafting playdate, with a black cropped boatneck sweater and…Converse. Oh, hello another thing I never ever ever wear. And yet? I think I like this outfit better.
See? Happy. And in color!
On Me: Zara Culottes; Eileen Fisher Sweater; Converse Sneakers; Sunday Somewhere Sunglasses.
So…tell me, just because I’m curious: which do you like better: turtleneck/heels or crop top/Converse? Or should I have just caped it out like Bangs up there? (“None of these looks are good those pants are hideous, Jordan” is also an acceptable answer, by the way, because I suspect that they are not everyone’s jam.)
