When I was in New York a couple of weeks ago I discovered my old black-and-white Ann Taylor swing coat sitting in my bedroom closet, and decided I wanted to wear to that day’s meetings. But it was 30 degrees outside and the jacket had elbow-length sleeves, so I decided that I should probably wear it with long leather gloves so as to prevent my wrists from falling off. But then I realized that neither my mother nor I own a pair of long leather gloves.
But I wanted to wear it anyway.
So you know what I did?
(Go ahead and sit down, because if you’re one one-thousandth as impressed with me as I am with myself, you’re going to need a minute.)
I put the jacket on top of a big knit sweater, yanked the sleeves of the sweater out the bottoms of the jacket sleeves. I turned to look at myself in the mirror, and angels sang as I realized that a) my outfit looked kind of great, and b) I had clearly invented A Thing.
P.S. If by chance you’ve seen other people doing this at any point in the history of forever, please go ahead and keep that fact to yourself, because I am presently basking in the warm light of self-anointed geniusness, and I rather enjoy the experience. Just to recap: Nobody has ever pulled the sleeves of their sweater out from under an elbow-length sleeve jacket so as to wear it in the wintertime before.
Everyone on the same page?
Glorious.
