Bouncy (yet polished) curls are such a perfect style solution for holiday festivities. They’re also really, really hard to convince to stay put. I mean, I have reasonably curl-friendly hair, and still: within an hour of attendance at any event, I generally start to go flat, and there you go: the ever-present wrist elastic gets called into action, my hair goes up into a topknot, and I look exactly like I do on every single other day of my entire life.
I have found the solution. And he is named Mousse.
I’m serious: this easy process will keep your curls looking fantastic all night long…and then they’ll still be there the next morning. Speaking from experience here.
1. Start with wet hair, and apply Dove Style+Care Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse. Here’s the thing about this mousse: it’s not crunchy like that ’80s stuff you remember (or have at least seen in movies like Heathers, if you were born in the 1990s, which I think you should keep to yourself because that makes me feel old). All it does is make your ‘do stay put just about forever, while leaving your hair lovely and soft. It’s also fun to put in, because it feels like marshmallows.
2. Blow-dry hair with a round brush for volume (if you have bangs, check out these blow-drying tips).
3. Apply Dove Style+Care Frizz-Free Shine Cream-Serum* to keep hair nice and smooth (I generally only apply it to the lower 2/3 of my hair).
4. Next, use a 1″ barrel curling iron to curl small sections of your hair. For the most natural look, only curl about 2/3 of the way up the hair shaft, and curl different pieces in different directions.
5. Finally, just break up the curls a little with your fingers, and mist lightly with Dove Style+Care Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray*. I’m a total hairspray convert: again, it’s not like the stuff I remember using when I was crimping my hair for early ’90s ice-skating competitions (oh yes: I crimped)…this stuff keeps your hair in place while still leaving it with lots of movement.
