Housebound = Highly Productive

Kendrick has arranged a Pumpkin Sacrifice to the hurricane gods.

Like everyone else on the East Coast, we’re stuck at home today, hiding from the hurricane.

The last time this happened turned out (very fortunately) to be the most anti-climatic thing ever…but still, I’m a little nervous, because we have a bit of a tree issue in the woods adjacent to our backyard. (I had the Public Works Department come out to take a look at the situation, but since it’s protected land there’s not much we can do unless a specific tree poses an immediate threat. Which makes sense. But still.)

Anyway, I’m taking advantage of our housebound-ness to check off a particularly annoying item on my to-do list: we had been keeping boxes of off-season clothes, holiday stuff, etc in the attic…but I love our attic too much to turn it into a storage space (the other side has a bed in it, so it makes a really pretty guest room). I ordered a bunch of plastic 116-gallon storage bins off of Amazon, and have spent the past few hours transferring things into them, labeling them, and stacking them down in the creepiest part of our basement.

Do not like. But storage is a sticky issue in houses dating back to the early 1900s (old colonials are notorious for their teeny closets), and I’d rather have clutter down there than in our attic.

(About 20% of that stuff is baby-related, and the rest is being stored in preparation for the yard sale that I’m planning to have in the spring. I love yard sales. They’re the best. And now I have a for-real yard to have one in, which is so exciting.)

I’m also getting a little Baby Book-ing done.

And making an improvisational version of the Turkey Chili pictured above using whatever I can find in our cupboards.
