I’ve been hearing about Hill Country Chicken (the new-ish outpost of the fantastically delicious Hill Country Barbecue) for months now, but only just made it downtown for my first visit on Friday.
That chicken? Is some good stuff. It’s not cheap – the meal pictured above (an original-style chicken breast, a biscuit, water, and a milkshake) ran me over $15 (and made me miss the now-defunct Piece of Chicken joint over on 9th Avenue), but when you’re craving comfort food, it’s 100% worth it. And the deal is sweetened by the fact that those are some seriously hefty (and organic) chicken breasts.
I’ve had a bit of a milkshake thing lately, so I was psyched to try one of their famous pie milkshakes…but I have to say: Apple/Cheddar? Not my cup of tea. (And they only serve one special pie milkshake a day, so it’s just too bad for you if you don’t like the flavor.) I was sad it wasn’t Texas Millionaire Pie day (chocolate, marshmallows, pecans & caramel), but what can you do?
If Apple-Pie-In-A-Milkshake (let’s just skip the cheddar part) sounds good to you, though, here’s how I imagine you’d make it:
In a blender:
– Ice
– Vanilla ice cream
– Milk
– Apple pie filling
– Sprinkle of cinnamon
– Handful of graham cracker crumbs.
Blend & serve.
