Get The Look: Boho Bride Updo

Paul Labrecque himself (love him love him) at last night’s Bridal Beauty event at the Core Club (a private club with a salon that’s open to the public, but still intimate and lounge-y enough to be ideal for wedding day bridal party styling).

I requested a tutorial on a Boho Bride Updo – here’s the “before” shot with my au natural hair (and a little pinned-up flippy thing on top – part of the process, not the look I was running around town with, no worries).

And here’s the “after” (with stylist Taylor).

Isn’t that stunning? And it’s easier than it looks.

Here’s how you do it:

1. Curl hair all over using a 1″ iron (spritz each piece with hairspray before curling).

2. Divide hair into three sections, and gather the back third into a low ponytail with a clear elastic. Leave the pieces on the sides loose for now.

3. Loosely pin the base of the ponytail up towards the top of your head, letting the ends hang down. This sounds more confusing than it is; basically, just push a couple of pins upwards into the underside of the base of the ponytail to create a sort of fountain effect with the hair and to hide the elastic.

4. Take the first side piece, and divide into two sections (leave some tendrils around your face free). Twist both sections in the same direction halfway down the hair, and then twist them together to form a loose rope (again, stop halfway down). Tease the rope a bit to make it messy, and pin it back above the ponytail so the curled ends all combine.

5. Repeat with second side piece.

6. Pin a couple of flowers into the updo, and you’re done.
