Five Things

We’re going to talk more about these jeans in a minute

IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR. #sweaterweather

You know how California isn’t know for its seasons? Well, here – in this little mountaintop community where I’ve found myself – we have them (!!). The trees around my house are turning colors that might not be quite New England level, but beggars, choosers, etc.

Rain: It happens! A little too much, actually! I have to layer on a big coat to get the kids in the car, and by the time we get to school it’s a difference of 30 degrees; it’s pretty wild, but way more interesting than all-day-every-day sunshine, IMO. (I also still regularly leave the house sans shoes, but the shoes-optional thing is basically why I moved to California, so.)

In the spirit of my favorite time of year, when all I want to fill my world with Macintosh apples and throw blankets and enormous books and snoozing pets…my current five favorite (cozy) things.

1/5

Lego Incredibleness

Currently in a major Legos-by-the-fireplace (kids optional) moment, and I suggest you join me. The Lego Icons artificial plant sets are legitimately pretty enough to display. (Related: Are you KIDDING ME?)

2/5

New York Times Sunday Delivery

Worth it, for both entertainment and aesthetics.

Neutral Basics from Nati

I did a fall shopping video a couple of weeks ago at Nati, my favorite boutique in Malibu because a) all of their pieces are simple and great, and b) I can actually afford to buy them. You can check out more looks in the video here; I’m especially crazy about those trouser jeans (BEYOND comfortable) and the button-down knit vest top.

This Absolutely Incredible Book

Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s debut novel, Fleishman Is In Trouble, instantly became my favorite book and (literally) changed my entire perspective on marriage and divorce. I didn’t think it was possible, but her second novel is even better, and screams to be read over the course of a long, lazy weekend. I don’t even know how to describe it. Just read it, and enjoy (I’m on my third read, and it only came out earlier this year).

This Whole Deal

Presenting: My outfit for the upcoming holiday festivities, as I will be having the first romantic/adventurous/exciting New Year’s in…I don’t know. Seven years? Fifteen if you don’t count our annual trip to Ohio as “exciting” (although I certainly did).

THESE PANTS. They are perfect.

You can wear them with a ton of different tops, but obviously a chunky knit that I can hide inside of was my personal pick.
