Hey everyone, Ramshackle Glam’s Editorial Director, Olivia here, and happy Friday! Jordan is finishing up her week at the digital detox and I figured I would pop in and share some of my favorite stuffs from the week. What are you digging lately? I’m always on the hunt for new podcasts, so leave your current fave in the comments, plz.
Favorite Parent Hack of the Week: Any parent knows what a struggle it is to brush your kids’ teeth; I have a pretty easy-going 6 year old and I dread morning and night teeth brushing because it stresses me out – that was until we discovered Chompers! Chompers is a 4 minute morning and nighttime podcast from Gimlet Media. Each episode features interesting facts or stories, and during the podcast, reminds the kiddo to brush in different areas of the mouth. It’s fun, interesting, and gives us something to look forward to during tooth-time. Pro-parenting hack: don’t forget that Quip makes brushes for kids, too!
Favorite Podcast Episode of the Week: I’m a huge Marvelous Mrs. Maisel fan, especially her standup acts in the show. I absolutely loved the episode of The Good One with Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino in which they discuss the very intricate way they crafted the standup scenes in the Catskills episodes of Maisel. It’s a fascinating look at TV and comedy writing, especially in that niche area of the show. The Good One breaks down comedian’s jokes step by step, so if you’re a writer or a lover of comedy, it’s a must-listen.
Favorite Article of the Week: Jordan never shies away from talking about the hard parts of parenting, which is why I had to share this New York Times piece by Minna Dubin, “The Rage Mothers Don’t Talk About.” It is a beautifully written piece about the reality of parenting many mothers face and simply never talk about. I guarantee if you’re a mother, you’ll relate somehow and share with a friend, too.
Favorite Album of the Week: New this week is the Highwomen’s album ‘Redesigning Women,’ and it is so darn good. Lead by the amazing Brandi Carlisle, this album is a little Americana, a little country, and a whole lot of deep lyrics. My two favorite songs so far have been Loose Change (“Loose change, I ain’t worth a thing to you, loose change, you don’t see my value, I’m gonna be somebody’s lucky penny someday, ‘stead of rolling around your pocket like loose change.”) and My Name Can’t Be Mama, which is every mother’s anthem to having some time on her own (“It’s not that I don’t love you, I wouldn’t touch the hands of time, it’s not that I don’t long to feel your tiny hand in mine, I’m not a perfect woman, Lord, I don’t wish it all away, my name can’t be Mama today”). If you’re driving around this weekend, take a listen!
Favorite Food Find of the Week: I’m in the middle of a Whole30 and recently discovered the New Primal Whole30 approved sauces. I’ve been putting the Medium Buffalo Sauce on everything this week. Have you ever done a Whole30?
Jordan will be back next week and we have a bunch of amazing posts coming your way, so stay tuned. Oh, and don’t forget to sign up for the Ramshackle Glam newsletter, too!
