My dad enjoys experiential gifts more than tangible ones – for Christmas, I usually give him tickets to classes/events that we can attend together, and this Father’s Day we’re going on a day trip – but if you’re looking for something that can be wrapped up with a bow (or, if you live far away, can be sent through the mail), here are a few of my favorite ideas. (Get crackin’, though – Father’s Day is this Sunday!)
– If you’re a crafty type, why not whip Dad up a totally one-of-a-kind iPhone case (can also be sized for other gadgets). All you need? An old pair of jeans, some scissors, a sewing machine, and these step-by-step instructions. Or if DIY isn’t your thing, how about this gorgeous leather iPhone case from WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie ($150)?
– Yay!DIY recommends a USB drive on which various family members have recorded 1-2 minute messages; I think this is an adorable idea, especially for families that might not get the chance to see each other all that often.
– For the dad who has absolutely everything, here’s a seriously unique – if sorta depressing – idea: the Legacy Locker ($30/year or $300 for a lifetime subscription). It’s basically an online safe where you can store all your “vital digital info” (passwords, etc), and which can be unlocked by family members in the event of death or disability. Morbid and weird, but hey…some dads are morbid and weird.
– Solve the ages-old Mystery of the Missing Socks with a Sockscription. You think I kid, but I have yet to meet a man (ahem, Kendrick) with the ability to successfully hold onto both halves of a pair of socks for more than a month. For $89 annually, this service delivers three pairs of high-quality socks (you pick the style and color) three times a year.
– And finally, I totally adore this personalized stainless steel guitar pick (about $40 plus S&H) from sTuckintheCoop (via Etsy).
