Eight (Truly Phenomenal) Spot Treatment Suggestions For The Acne-Ridden

If only it were possible to flounce from one’s own face.

Remember my little skin issue? No, not the potentially-worm-related one (which is apparently something called “granuloma” that is only a big deal if you care about having feet that don’t look like your grandfather’s); the Trump-related one, a.k.a. the one that demonstrated that the state of my pores correlates precisely with the state of our country.

It’s still happening (I was treating it before I left for Ohio, but a week of using hotel room soap because I forgot my own seems to have set me back). I had my dermatologist look at a little spot on my nose that was concerning me, and she had trouble understanding which spot she was looking at because – and I quote – “there are so many spots that it’s hard to tell what’s what.”

Thank you, doctor. I feel much better now. (Did I mention I need a new dermatologist?)

So after leaving the dermatologist, I drove straight to a beauty supply store and picked up a bottle of Mario Badescu pink lotion, which was one of the recommendations posted under my original “Trumple The Great And Terrible” post. And for real: all of the suggestions you guys posted (and sent to me via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and email) were good – so good that I wanted to put a rundown of my favorites here (I totally ordered the Aztec Secret stuff and am just waiting for it to arrive).

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay

I promise, promise, promise it will help. You can actually feel the mask working once you put it on. – Lindsey

DCL AHA Resurfacing Lotion

To address this issue of the Trumple (hilarious btw) – and you know I’m an expert given my Italian oiliness – you need to own this. It’s a resurfacing lotion that peels both wrinkles and pimples, and also hydrates. Bam. – Francesca

Lush Ultra Bland Cleanser

When I was pregnant I got into one of those terrible skin spirals, and everything I did seemed to make it worse…until I: 1) Got a really good facial, where the facialist used an ultrasound machine to kill all the bacteria under the skin, and extracted well; and 2) Started using Lush Ultra Bland on my skin every day. Just Ultra Bland at night, and water and moisturizer in the morning. Once a week I used a cleanser with salicylic acid. It was miraculous! – Smalina

Renée Roleau Anti-Cyst Treatment

Get this. Seriously, works on like a charm on anything, but really those deep-rooted stress-related beasts. – Kirstin

Lush Brazened Honey Face Mask

The Lush Brazened Honey mask is the only mask I’ll use cause it’s the ssshhhiiiiizzzzz. Seriously, it REALLY REALLY helps calm breakouts and dry things up without drying out flaky face skin.

Stridex

The best thing I did was start using Stridex (in the red box) twice a day. It’s a chemical exfoliant (which makes it sound harsh, but I have dry skin in winter and it doesn’t make it drier. It’s actually quite mild). Wash with something gentle, use the Stridex, let it dry a little, then use plenty of moisturizer. – Megan

Biologique Recherche PS 50 Lotion (Original 1970 Formula)

Ever since I started using Biologique Recherche P50 1970 toner morning and night after cleansing, I have hade no Trumples. It is miraculous stuff. I like the satisfying tingle of the 1970 version, but if a little tingle freaks you out, they have more mild versions. – Cait

Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar

I’ve had acne my whole life and the thing that works best is apple cider vinegar! Spread a thin layer on the affected area and then smell like Greek food for a while. Seriously though, that was the only thing that helped to cure my cystic acne. – Olivia
