My default look during the holiday season: relaxed waves. Mostly because they look pretty as is, but can also be easily transformed into a ton of different looks…so I can switch up my hairstyle from event to event without spending a ton of time fussing around in front of the mirror.
Here’s the starting look, which I think is perfect for anything from a cocktail party to a dinner with friends to Christmas Eve.
For a day of shopping or drinks with friends, the waves can easily be transformed into a loose side braid: just pull hair to one side and braid twice, letting pieces fall out wherever it happens naturally, and secure with a clear elastic.
For a black-tie event, I like pulling the waves into a casual updo that contrasts with the formal dress. Since you’ve already created volume with the curls, all you really need to do is use an elastic to position a bun wherever on your head is most flattering, and make sure to leave the ends free for a relaxed effect before finishing with a light misting of Dove Style+Care Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray.
Now, a few tips on how to get your waves to stay put so that you can try out all these different looks:
