Q. Any ideas for easy, affordable updates for clothes/accessories this fall?
– Anthea
A. Oh, yes.
#1: A NEUTRAL SWEATER WITH A COOL DETAIL
The only thing I ever want to wear in the autumn are oversized, cozy sweaters in neutral tones…but this season, what I’m looking for are pieces with a cool detail: a fringe collar (like the Michael Kors sweater pictured here), an asymmetrical neckline, belled sleeves. Something special.
#2: A RUGGED VEST
A moto-style or military-inspired vest instantly updates a simple tee and jeans – add a bunch of jewelry and boots, and you’re done.
#3: ROCKER ACCENTS
This season is all about mixing a hint of dishevelment into your glam: go for a perfectly torn tee or a pair of distressed black skinny jeans, or just add a simple pair of spiked stud earrings (like the House of Harlow pair pictured above) for a touch of toughness.
#4: LEATHER (OR FAUX LEATHER) LEGGINGS
These are a great alternative to the black leggings you usually wear under your oversized sweaters or tees, and look way more chic. I own and can personally speak for the Paige Paloma leather leggings and I.N.C.’s faux leather leggings, but there are tons of options available in stores right now at every price range.
#5: OVER-THE-KNEE FLAT BOOTS
I want to wear flat over-the-knee boots (pictured above are Stuart Weitzman’s 5050 boots) everywhere I go, all fall (and winter) long. Buy a pair in simple black leather, and they’ll never go out of style.
