I have a soft spot for snow globes, but I do not have a soft spot for how cheesy they often are. Fortunately, they’re incredibly easy (and cheap!) to DIY.
What you need:
1. A jar of your choice (I used one of my many Mason jars, but if you’d like to do the same just be aware that the writing on them does create a slight obscuring effect).
2. A figurine of your choice. I just used an old angel ornament I had lying around, but I also love the look of miniature pine trees and jewelry, as pictured above. Tip: if you find a jar with a cork lid, you can just thread the ends of dangly earrings through the cork and use a little glue to affix them in place.
3. Super glue. FYI (if you’re as clumsy as me), the stuff comes off your fingers with a cotton ball soaked in acetone-based nailpolish remover.
4. Distilled water (or you can just boil some water and let it cool).
5. Glycerin. It’s in liquid form, and you can find it in pharmacies (I found it in the face wash aisle) and health-food stores.
6. Glitter or faux snow (easily found at craft stores).
What you do:
1. Using super glue, affix the figurine that you’ve chosen to the inside of the lid of the jar. Let dry.
2. Fill the jar with water, and add a little glycerin (the more you add, the slower your snow will fall).
3. Add glitter or faux snow to jar.
4. Screw on lid with attached figurine.
5. Optional: decorate base with paint, ribbon, or whatever you like, really.
