Last night Francesca and I swung by Phyto Universe for their Holiday Hair Tips event. FYI, Jenna Rabideau of Halo Salon will be at Phyto Universe with her team of stylists through the 18th, and they’re offering $20 blowouts and a free haircut with color. Call 212.308.0270 for an appointment.
This was my favorite of the holiday styles that Jenna demonstrated: a loose side chignon.
I’ve tried side chignons in the past, but they’ve never looked particularly elegant or “finished”. Last night’s aha! moment: it seems that I’ve been doing them wrong (I’ve always just pulled all my hair into a single bun set off to the side, and I look more like I’m going to the gym than to a party). To do the look right: rather than gathering all your hair up, leave the front piece loose. Pull the remainder into a side bun…and then twist the hair that you’ve left out into a second bun and pin it slightly above and in front of the first bun. Let some tendrils escape for an even sexier effect.
After the Phyto event, I headed over to my parents’ place to help decorate their tree. (Above, a vintage ornament I gave my parents for Christmas when I was 17. Buy your own pretty bird ornaments here.)
This is Jordan’s Box Of Ornaments: a pretty (well, very) dilapidated collection of ornaments from when I was little, most of which have been banned from the tree. All of them, that is, save for Around the World with Santa Claus: a replica of the original 1891 story and a must-own.
