We know how obsessive I am about moisture.
I already told you about one insanely good recent find in this department – Yu Be Skin Cream (review here) – and now I am going to tell you about another.
I first heard about Lucas’ PaPaw Ointment from my dear friend, the beauty blogger Nadine Jolie, who mentioned it in a post on her all-time favorite products. My interest was piqued both by the name (which is so cute) and by the fact that Nadine test-runs literally thousands of products, so anything she calls out is guaranteed to be exceptional. And then, last week, I saw it in an Us Weekly “What’s In My Bag” feature on Nicole Richie, and so sue me: I totally love Nicole Richie.
And so I pulled the trigger (not an enormous trigger, really; the stuff is like ten bucks) and ordered some.
See, the thing about Yu Be is that wonderful as it is, I don’t especially want to use it on my lips. On my feet, on my face, on the skin around my lips, yes yes yes, but on the lips themselves the menthol scent is a little much for me. Papaw Ointment is sort of like the Australian answer to Japan’s Yu Be – it’s an emollient cream with antibacterial properties that can be used on everything from insect bites to eczema to sunburn – but it’s gathered a cult following as a healing lip balm, and I totally get why.
Some people say that it’s just glorified Vaseline – and it’s true, petroleum jelly is a significant ingredient – but to me it feels super absorbent and moisturizing (whereas Vaseline sort of rests on top of the skin, sealing in moisture rather than delivering it). It’s not a lip gloss – it’s got a little sheen to it, but it has no color or real shine – and is marketed as a product to heal rather than to beautify…but you know what I think is beautiful?
Lips that don’t look like two tiny armadillos stacked on top of each other.
Love the texture, love the (absent) scent, love the product. Get it here.
